Her logic makes some sense, lots of people want what they can't have, especially children.

But I don't like this in a marriage.
If it works for them, great. But it wouldn't work for me.

Everybody's tempted, NBA players aren't alone in that. Men aren't alone in that.
You commit when you get married, and part of that committment is not sleeping with anyone else.
