I need to change my IP address, does anyone know how to?
You must contact the government about this.
What you do now?
Cable, DSL, Dial-up?

trying to mask yourself so you can post on the nsync boards again?
Is your ISP giving you a dynamic or fixed address?
If it's dynamic, then it probably changes every time you log in.
If it's fixed, then you have to ask them to change it, probably for a fee.
His IP's not fixed...
Just reboot your cable modem.
Then go slap your mama for giving birth to you.
Even if its dynamic I doubt it changes unless he's on dial up.
Chances are you're screwed.
You can go in and manually change it through DOS.
The service he uses will change your ip every time you reboot your modem. And sometimes it will change even if you don't...
That's not correct. We re-boot our cable modem all the time and our IP doesn't change every time.
I don't know how true, or reliable it is...I just end up having mine changed when I go back to school: http://whatismyipaddress.com/staticp...-my-ip-address
No,not nessecarily. I have had both DSL and cable modems with "dynamic" IPs that changed once in a very long while regardless of reboots.
Do you have the same service he does?
Yes, we both have Roadrunner.
Well, you can always move and buy a new computer.
That's weird...it changes my ip. Must be a San Antonio thing.
If u unplug your dsl modem for a period of time, say at least 5 minutes, it will usually change.
1. Switching ISPs would get it done, obviously. As would ordering a static IP (if available). These seem a bit drastic.
2. You could try leaving your cable modem turned off for a while -- overnight, perhaps. Their DHCP might reissue your address in the intervening time and issue you a new one in the morning when you reconnect.
3. Try just calling them and asking if they can reset it. Failing that, you might have to wait until your ISP naturally does it.
When you lease an IP it will usually log it to a file so that it's the first address you ask for when you try to lease your IP again. Make sure to clear that file if you want to try to lease a different IP Address.
If you have Roadrunner, just call them.
If you got banned from a forum and just want to post without them realizing you're posting under the same IP, use a Proxy. Or just sign on AOL.
Thanks for the advise.
I'll try unplugging my modem and then retarting it.
Also, what about a IPCONFIG/RELEASE then IPCONFIG/RENEW in the command box?
Could y'all type slower please?
My 2600 baud modem on my VIC-20 can't keep up with all of this nonsense.
Jesus, will you never stop posting Slomo's pictures of San Antonio?
that would probably work if you were connected to a router and change your ip on the internal network, but not with RR.
