Finally, a place to talk about football (soccer for you Americans).

Let's get the breakdown and verbal fireworks going. USA vs. Mexico, USA vs. France, Mexico vs. Argentina, Argentina vs. England, Argentina vs. Brazil, Argentina vs. everyone else, lol we can have fun in here!

Who are your favourites? Do you agree with the common opinion among pundits that Brazil will win? Who are the teams that could prevent the Brazilians winning the World Cup for the Sixth time? Do you expect any surprises a la Greece in Euro 2004?

I've seen forum members from Argentina, USA, France, Mexico, Australia, Holland, Poland, Italy, Germany, England, Serbia and Montenegro and Ecuador, so don't be shy and post your say in here!

Portugal is pretty good - I'm pretty sure they're better than the Mexicans.

However, since Angola is an OK team and Iran aint' very good the Mexicans are almost guaranteed to get 2nd place at worst.

    i'll be rooting for holland

brazil is main favourite, england might have a good tournament, france will look for a vengance, but won't quite make it. Germany hasn't put together a good squad since euro96 and it doesn't look it will change, but they'll be playing at home so they will get enough "help". Italy is having problems with injuries, but their luck never leaves them. Argentina and Spain will underachieve.

My tip for a surprise is Ivory Coast.

Damn that Argentine group is deadly...

Usually, the host team does really well. However, Germany's D is about as good as the Raptors.

I would love the Americans to do well, but my dream final is Brazil-Italy. Is it possible?

    Go Azzurri!

Brazil is going to be tough to beat, but then I thought that UCONN was going to win the NCAA tournament.

I'll be watching Italy and Argentina. We'll see if Italy can upset Germany again. More or less, I'll be watching for hot guys.

    USA! USA! USA!

Not that I really think they have much of a chance. But I'll still be running around and screaming my head off in front of the TV during their matches.

For those in the US, XM Satellite Radio is adding an English language World Cup channel (XM 148) which will have play-by-play coverage and specials; Spanish-language play-by-play on XM Deportivo (XM 147).

I was referring to the friendly they had in January of this year. Germany's defense was non-existent.

The US has a good squad, they have made giant leaps progressing since 1990. The World Cup held there back in 1994, the creation of the MLS, and having some players in the European clubs have helped. However, the draw is very tough, probably the second closest and hardest group after Argentina's.

But this is football, anything can happen and that's the beauty of this sport. They can somehow snatch a draw or even a win against Italy, and then their chances will look good. The Czech Republic is a very good team, but they are somewhat underachievers, their technical abilities don't match their results. Ghana is the typical African team: Very strong physically, good technique, but they lack organization and the squad is full of internal problems.

It will be a very open group, but if the US manages to go through, then who knows?. From the second round and on, it's a 50-50 chance in every game, 90 minutes (with the posibility of overtime and penalties), where anything can happen.

Which is the group of Death?

I agree with you on most except I have group G higher than group F. Korea is tougher than Japan. Group G will be more compe ive. Brazil and Croatia should advance easily from group F.

Forget the usa. They stink in soccer. Most wouldn't care anyways if they won. Let another country who is into soccer, win it. I hope the usa doesn't get out of the opening round.
