Remember when Shaq's team broke all your little silver and black hearts in 2004?

Well get ready to cry again, because 2006 is the year that Shaq leads another team. Another collection of the most talented players in the NBA to another le. That right, the MIAMI HEAT are going to win it all this year and if the Spurs can overcome Duncan's injuries and Parker's pussy play to escape La, Sac, and Dallas then they will be owned by the Miami Heat. Just be prepared to pay the piper this June.

FACE IT. THE HEAT ARE GOING TO WIN IT ALL THIS YEAR. IT IS DESTINY.

    2 things:

Shaq sure looks little in that first picture.

Why is a Spurs fan rooting for the Heat?

ThirdCoast, do you remember what the Pistons did to your precious little Shaq? And ya'll didn't even deserve that win against SA, the famous 0.4....freakin' clock didn't start until the ball had been in for a second. That sucked, and it went to show who the media and those butt heads were rooting for. SA deserved that series. But I sure did looooovveee it when the Pistons demolished the Lakers. That was a wonderful moment. The great, dominant, Goliath Lakers lose to the little, nothing, pee-wee, David Pistons.

    it says they suck ass.

    Reasons why:

    1) Shaq is old
    2) Gary Payton
    3) Antoine Walker

    Change for the worse
Heat don't have the look of a championship contender

    By Chris Mannax, SI.com

Ever see the trailer for a movie and think, Wow, this is going to be special, only to be disappointed by the real thing? That is how I'm feeling about the Miami Heat.

What did we all hear about the Heat last summer? Look at all the weapons they picked up. Antoine Walker gives them a third scorer. James Posey is the athletic defender they've been missing. Jason Williams is that pure point guard they've been missing. Gary Payton can give them quality minutes off the bench. And don't forget about Alonzo Mourning! Yet with the regular season coming to a close, Miami's "improved" roster is looking more like an episode of Dr. 90210 -- just superficial improvements to a mediocre product.

OK, mediocre is taking it a little far. It's true that Miami was one Dwyane Wade rib injury away from bouncing Detroit from the Eastern Conference finals last season, but anyone who tells you Miami would have stood a chance at defeating San Antonio in the NBA Finals has been spending too much time in the sun on South Beach. As a team, the Heat would have been overmatched.

So instead of continuing to build around the tandem of Wade and Shaquille O'Neal, Miami decided -- after one season with the duo -- that it was time for an overhaul. Fine; I mean, we all saw how well that worked for Dallas. Out went Eddie Jones (one of Miami's only legitimate perimeter threats) and Damon Jones (an excellent 3-point shooter and de facto team mascot), as well as valuable role players Rasual Butler and Keyon Dooling. In came Walker, Posey, Payton and Williams, talented veterans who had never in their careers played the role of supporting case member.

    How's it working out?

At 51-27, the Heat have no shot at equaling last season's 59 wins, and they have spent most of the last month battling New Jersey for the No. 2 seed and home court advantage in the second round of the playoffs. Yes, Miami has been without O'Neal for 21 games, and the loss of Mourning last month forced coach Pat Riley to juggle his rotation, but make no mistake: This Heat team is not as good as last year's version. More frightening for Heat fans has been the team's 1-3 record against the Nets, a club Miami swept out of the playoffs last season. Why has New Jersey been so successful? A few reasons:

Miami has no one who can guard Vince Carter

Carter is averaging 38.5 points in four games against the Heat, by far his highest total against any team in the league. It hasn't mattered who has defended Carter, because he's been able to get into the lane, causing Heat defenders to back off on the perimeter, where Carter has been deadly. Carter is like a nuclear weapon: When he goes off, he has the ability to wipe out everyone.

The Nets aren't afraid to play Shaq straight up

If there were an award for Best Player No One Cares About, Jason Collins would win it every year. Why? Collins is a fantastic defender who makes up for a relative lack of mass (7-foot, 255 pounds) with a blend of skill and intelligence. In a game two weeks ago Collins was battered and beaten in the post by O'Neal but refused to back down, frustrating the Diesel and holding him to 18 points and forcing him into four offensive fouls. Collins' effectiveness limits the Nets' need to send double teams, making it harder for Miami -- which feeds off ball movement triggered by doubles -- to get clean looks.

    Kidd has returned to form

Kidd was a force in March and this month has averaged nearly a triple double (9.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, 9.8 assists). He's also been a lock-down perimeter defender, a weapon that will come in handy against Wade, who will attack any defender he deems unworthy, as he did Nets rookie Antoine Wright during a 32-point game on April 2. A healthy and effective Kidd is the driving force behind a productive Richard Jefferson, who feeds off Kidd's energy and court vision.

The Heat still have the most dominant player (O'Neal) and arguably the most talented (Wade) heading into the playoffs, but their balance has made them top-heavy and their chemistry is volatile at best. Not exactly qualities used to describe NBA champions.
