we already have a crap load of PFs
CharlieV, Jerebko, Maxiell I would like to take Hassan Whiteside or Cole Aldrich with the pick. Even if they have no offense, you need size in nthe nba . |

That's basically how I feel aswell.
Ben might be retiring, and even if he doesn't, he's a 25 minute guy. We HAVE to land a legit C capable of starting this year .. or next at the very least. I actually think they need to get a C in both rounds. Art Parakhouski or Jerome Jordan are who I'm hoping for in the 2nd. |

Pistons could trade up to draft Kentucky's DeMarcus Cousins, or he could fall to them
Fans around here probably were giddy if they saw today's New York Daily News note that the Detroit Pistons were looking to move up from the No. 7 spot in next month's NBA draft in hopes of landing Kentucky big man DeMarcus Cousins. The thinking is that Cousins can be had if the Pistons can move into the No. 4-5 range (currently occupied by the Timberwolves and Kings). Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars has said several times that all options are open. Pistons officials get excited about Cousins because he’s a legitimate center and would give sorely needed balance to the perimeter-oriented roster. But what if the Pistons don’t move at all and still somehow land Cousins? Although it still remains unlikely because genuine centers are hard to find, Cousins didn’t seem to help himself at this week’s predraft combine in Chicago. There are issues about his conditioning. Reports suggest the 6-foot-11 Cousins has been working hard in this area since the season ended, but he weighed in at a robust 291 pounds with 16.4% body fat -- the second-most among the 52 prospects measured. It raises the fear that Cousins could eat himself out of the league. But that’s not even the No. 1 concern. There are worries about his maturity. During interviews, he blamed the media for his reputation without taking personal responsibility. One could envision a scenario in which Kentucky point guard John Wall, Syracuse small forward Wesley Johnson, Georgia Tech power forward Derrick Favors and Ohio State shooting guard Evan Turner come off the board in the first four picks. Then either the Timberwolves or Kings could fall in love with skilled Georgetown power forward Greg Monroe. It’s doubtful Cousins would make it past the Warriors at No. 6, but it’s extremely early in the draft process, and they could be scared off by the red flags. Then the Pistons could pounce -- believing his combination of post moves, quick feet and soft hands are too good to ignore. As for the trade possibility raised by the Daily News, you have to wonder what the Pistons would have to give up. Would the No. 7 pick and the sixth pick of the second round be enough? http://www.freep.com/article/2010052...015/1051/rss16 |

well dont trade up until after the draft, maybe cousins will fall.
I will take Aldrich if Cousins isnt there. If Aldrich can just be a Robin Lopez i will be pretty happy with the pick. |

If the spurs aren't interested, Detroit should look into Mahinmi. Will be cheap and has showed flashes of talent.

What should Dumars offer for Perkins if Ainge makes him available? I think Perkins will be traded next off-season.

Honestly, nothing Boston would want. I don't think he'd trade the #7 pick and the rest of the roster aren't very good players that could help Boston unless they want to take on Rip's contract if they let Ray Allen walk. |

I would trade Rip for Perkins in a second.
That said I'm really warming up to Davis or Monroe for the 7th pick.. I'm kinda thinking we are going to take Davis.. really see Monroe going to the Warriors.. his skill set just really fits that team. I'm really thinking our pick is going to be Ed Davis though. _____________________________ Do be do be do

I'm just grateful that this draft is so heavy in bigs. No matter what, we should be getting a frontline player that we've been needing for years. I don't really care which one we grab. Whoever it is brings something to the table that we've been missing.
Let's just say our prayers that Joe lands a rotation guy w/ our #36 and not another Plaisted/Mejia/Acker/Sharpe |

Plaisted was #46, Mejia #57, and Acker #60. Those were mid to late second round picks. Walter Sharpe was #32 in a shallow draft where not very many second round picks have made a solid career in the NBA. Mario Chalmers and DeAndre Jordan are the only guys you could argue should have been the pick over Sharpe.
Dumars has a decent resume when it comes to later picks, with Okur, Prince, Jerebko, Amir Johnson. Second round picks are more of a crap shoot than first rounders, obviously. Hit or miss because often times there's something holding those players back from being first rounders, whether it's talent, character issues, injury history or what have you. Being 50/50 on those second rounders is probably a better than average percentage. Dumars has been around that with his second round picks. |

This draft is filled with good role players imo. I have a strange feeling Monroe could be a player kind of a poor mans C=Webb.

Jazz: Aldrich a lot like Ostertag Jazz » Would-be NBA center could be Utah's first choice in draft. By Ross Siler The Salt Lake Tribune Updated: 06/10/2010 11:50:32 PM MDT Click photo to enlarge Salt Lake City - Kansas center Cole Aldrich fires a... (Steve Griffin / The Salt Lake Tribune) * « * 1 * 2 * » If he is the second coming of Greg Ostertag (minus the Fred Flintstone tattoo, of course), Cole Aldrich sounded Thursday as if he would embrace all the comparisons as he went through a pre-draft workout with the Jazz. "I like to think I might be slightly better looking than Greg, but who knows?" said Aldrich, a Kansas product destined to have a future playing center in the NBA, much like Ostertag. "He's probably going to text me later too after he sees that." "He's cool, he is," Aldrich added. "He comes around every once in a while at K.U. He's so much fun. He had a great career here." If he is soon to follow in Ostertag's footsteps with the Jazz, Aldrich would do so as a far higher draft pick. Ostertag was taken with the 28th pick late in the first round in 1995, while Aldrich could be the Jazz's choice at No. 9 in two weeks. Aldrich averaged 11.3 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.5 blocks a game last season and could help fill one of the Jazz's biggest voids in bringing a defensive presence inside. Carlos Boozer and Mehmet Okur averaged a combined 0.77 blocks last season. "I think for myself it's a great thing because I kind of play a physical game down low," Aldrich said. "I like to bang with the other big guys. I think a lot of teams need that big guy that loves to bang and grab rebounds, block shots." For his part, Aldrich called the Jazz "a good fit for me," with the fans in Utah reminding him of those in Kansas. He called Jazz coach Jerry Sloan a "real tough coach, but that's awesome," and compared him to his college coach, Bill Self. "He just expects the most out of you, to come to practice every day, put your work boots on and go hard," Aldrich said. Walt Perrin, the Jazz's vice president of player personnel, described Aldrich as a known commodity after playing three years at Kansas and said Aldrich could step in and play right away in the NBA. "Whether he can start or not depends on what team he goes to," Perrin said. "But he could have a long career in the league." With Boozer possibly leaving as a free agent and Okur recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon, the Jazz could have an especially acute need for their upcoming draft pick to play immediately. The Jazz worked out Aldrich along with Baylor forward Ekpe Udoh and Marshall center Hassan Whiteside. All three are expected to be first-round draft picks and were three of college basketball's six leading shot blockers last season. "We know what Cole is and we know what to expect from him, which is good for the coaching staff," said Perrin, who described Aldrich as a shot blocker, a hard worker, a smart player and a physical player. Although he's not 7-foot-2 like Ostertag, Aldrich said he thought his game was more well-rounded than Ostertag's, with better ability to run the floor and shoot from the outside. There are some questions about Aldrich's size, though. Aldrich measured 6-foot-9 without shoes at the NBA's pre-draft combine last month, but he said Thursday that he consistently has measured 6-foot-11 in shoes at every workout stop and didn't anticipate any problems playing center in the NBA. |
