    It was during the Denver game when Sasha put up 22 - many in the clutch. Joel said "he's like a machine out there" after Sasha hit a couple buckets in a row. Then he hit another couple and everytime he touched the ball, Joel started calling him "The Machine."

    TRIED TO get to the bottom of who came up with the nickname Machine for the Lakers' Sasha Vujacic.

    Checked with Lakers TV guy, Joel Meyers, who did a lot of hemming and hawing, well, more than usual. He said both he and his partner Stu Lantz came up with it together. Never took them for Siamese twins before.

    Apparently, neither did Lantz. "I came up with it," Lantz said. "And then Joel ran with it. I used it once, and never again."

    In the AP article on espn.com on this last finals game they dub him as self-proclaimed again.
    Couldn't find a link to email whoever wrote it though.
    And BTW; someone here also said that Kobe said in an interview that he didn't give the nickname to himself.
