If we get a high pick and TOR pick, it seems like we would be able to take Topic OR Risacher then Sheppard OR Buzelis. Assuming we went best available PG and SF. Which would you prefer?

If we get 1st and 7th? I’d take Sarr and Topic/Dilly. T’Wolves lost tonight but nobody thought that KAT/Gobert would work. I doubt any team would look forward playing against that duo. I’m expecting a player like Donovan would force himself to get to play alongside Wemby, it’s just a matter of which would be the lucky one.

I’d definitely prefer Risacher and Reed. Reed IMO had the highest floor of the 4 and Risacher a much safer bet than Buzelis. I think Reed is likely gone though before 7.

I don’t have a problem with Sarr but the assumption was he was gone when we picked. Tankathon mocks almost always give us Sheppard, even at 6 or later. Dillingham was usually going sooner, though I’m not entirely convinced he’s a PG. Board may have changed, Sheppard is now 4th.

Most common outcome on their mocks was what I indicated, though for the second pick sometimes Ron Holland sneaks in there because Buzelis went sooner.

If you pick Sarr then you’d have to select Dillingham. The reason why it works for the Timberwolves is because of their efficient 3 point shooting. Wembanyama would need to consistently shoot at least 40%.

Best wing first, then best pg. Not the other way around.

I'd be very pleased either way. My preference would be Topic + Buzelis, but I'd have no complaints with Risacher + Shephard..

Only draft 1 and trade the other. Takes too long to develop (most) teenagers

Knecht is a good option for a couple reasons, 1 is that he is a good fall back at the 7-8 spot since he seems sure to be available, and 2 while his draft age is touted as a negative, the Spurs need more players ready now rather than developmental players who need 2-3 years to be efficient and productive.

As been mentioned in other threads, I'd be worry in taking other teams (whose success remains to be confirmed) as examples of what spurs could or should do. Every team, situation and players are different. Wemby isn't Gobert, Sarr isn't KAT and spurs don't have an Anthony Edwards who makes everyone and everything around look better.

Let's also wait and see how their POs go.

Scott, all in on the wings! Why are you interested in 2 guys who can’t shoot the 3 ball though?

I am basing this opinion on the premise that Matas has a 3 ball that can quickly be unlocked/developed, and that Holland could be developed into a Kuminga-level shooter (.341 through his first three years).

If those two premises are wrong (which they may very well be), then it kind of blows apart my strategy.

I do want us to double up on wings/forwards though. I don't really care for the PGs at the top of the draft, but I see some potential in these SF/PFs

Follow up: at this point I'm more interested in guards like McCain and Carter than I am Topic/Dilly/Sheppard

Well you can theoretically develop shooters. The main reason I wasn’t sad to see Derrick White go was his poor shooting, which after a few seasons with BOS he did improve. Sort of the 3 and D argument, get someone who can play D for sure, and have them work religiously on their 3 ball.
