Tony Parker is meeting with Spurs official in New York today. They'll have a doctor look at his eye and determine whether Parker can play in the Olympics.

Usually, I hope that Spurs players don't play for their national teams but this time it's different. If Parker is ruled out, it'd be pretty scary to have a potential serious eye injury clouding the rest of the Spurs summer and the Spurs might have to go after a better than usual backup point guard -- which would take away resources from more needed positions. Thus, I'm hoping Parker plays and plays well for France.

    Hopefully we hear something today.

    P.S.

The Spurs might be so quiet on the free agent market because they're waiting for Parker to be cleared. We may hear of some actual activity once Parker is examined.

Great points. It also might be why they gave De Colo a physical. If Parker is hurt in any way going into the season we would need both Patty and Nando.

Well, all sign points in the direction that Parker will be fine.

The boss of French basketball said yesterday:
"As long as the final decision hasn't been made, we have to stay cautious. However, we are quite confident. He is going to NY to have to diagnosis of one of Spurs doctor. I think and I hope that it will only confirm what we know: Tony will be OK for the Olympics. We would be very surprised if it didn't go that way."

IIRC, didn't France want him to play through a broken finger and a sprained ankles? I think they'd paint a "Parker is fine as long as the Spurs don't do something crazy" picture to protect their interests no matter how hurt Parker actually is.

I'm obviously hoping Parker is fine but the picture can change quickly when seen by a doctor who may have a Spurs slant.

Well, the eye surgeon has nothing to do with French basketball federation and I wouldn't be surprised that he was picked by Spurs (he worked in the USA). He went too to Genova to see another eye specialist that was maybe too picked by Spurs.

Another positive sign is that Spurs don't make him go back all the way to SA but only to NY.

I wonder if he'll have to wear eye protection. He could have them tailor made by Nike like Amare.

    some stuff from Spurs Nation

According to the French publication L’Equipe, Parker has arrived in the U.S. for his examination and was optimistic for a positive outcome. His inclusion on Les Bleus’ final Olympic roster is considered an encouraging sign.

Spurs officials declined to comment until after Parker’s diagnosis had been properly reviewed by the team’s medical staff.

“If you know our history, Pop (coach Gregg Popovich) is going to put the health of our players above all else in relation to putting them out on the court,” Spurs general manager R.C. Buford said last week. “It’s impossible for us to have an evaluation until we see him.”

If there really was a serious issue with Parker's eye, you would hear him or one of his lawyers/agent making a bigger fuss for maximum lawsuit money.

Tony Parker a reçu le feu vert de la part des médecins des Spurs. Tony participera aux J.O. Soulagement pour les Bleus.

    The press release about it:
    http://www.ffbb.com/_actu/page_m.php...p=actu&id=8705

TP was in fact in Atlanta to have his eye checked by two eye specialist. He was too checked sooner by the eye surgeon who made the surgery and by two eye specialist in Swiss. So, 5 different doctors have looked at his eye and concluded that he could play. Even the more worried Spurs fan should be reassured now.

Atlanta? Does that mean a trade for Josh Smith?

    Seriously though that's good news.

Yes, Cory Joseph will be attempting alley oop passes to him on a nightly basis until you stop tuning in.
