IMO I'd have to say no tbh. He's been riddled with injuries this season, and he couldn't even get close to scoring 20 for the few games that he came back for (until...surprise surprise!...another injury).

I think it's pretty obvious that he's going to retire after next season when his contract is up. The 3 year/$40 million contract was a lifetime achievement award contract, after all. There's no way the Spurs F.O. will give him 2 lifetime achievement award contracts, and no other team in the league wants a TOSB. He's not a pure shooter like Steve Nash, and his passing abilities will be rendered useless once the league figures out that Manu's no longer a scoring threat, so he doesn't really have any skills that will allow him to stay in the league beyond the age of 35.

He can't explode at the rim with his "toothpick" ankles (lest he wants another stress fracture). His shot is pretty much gone after his hand surgery (you can tell by the way his free throws clanked off the rim to the left and right). If he plays any more than 15 minutes a game, he'll be too tired to make a 3 point shot, so that's pretty much gone. By Manu's own admission, this is without question Tony Parker's team now, so even if you disagreed with everything so far, Manu won't be taking 15-20 shots per game because he's no longer the first option (or second option...or third option IMO).

Taking into account the fact that Manu will most likely have another season ending injury next year, and taking into account the fact that it takes him 3 or 4 months to warm up and get in a good rhythm (which he doesn't have this season), I think it's a safe bet to say he'll never score 20 again.

So what do you think spurstalk, will Manu Ginobili ever score 20 points again?

    Update for 2012-2013 season:

    vs Portland: 17 points
    vs Lakers: 3 points
    vs Knicks: 12 points
    vs Nuggets: 20 points
    vs Clippers: 15 points
    vs Celtics: 5 points

    Season average: 10.4 PPG

Not a bad Manu Ginobili impression 5-10 minutes into a game tbh, given how quickly he tires out.

Alright man we'll see. I give you guys full permission to roast the out of me and bump this thread the day Manu scores 20 again.

I have a feeling it's going to be later, rather than sooner, though (possibly never tbh).

Idk man, I'm just looking at the facts. Manu has scored 8, 1, 11, and 2 points for his 4 games in February (a whopping 22 points in 4 games and 80 minutes total).

He's averaging 5.5 PPG after his surgery, or you could say he's averaging 22 points per 80 minutes.

22 points/80 minutes = .275 points per minute, so if he plays 30 minutes per game (which is pretty generous imo) he'll be on track to score about 8 points per game

Now now, no need to be hostile I can tell this is a tender subject for you. We all have to come to grips with the basketball mortality of our favorite players at some point.

I've done nothing more than talk about the in the room tbh. It's only natural to think that Manu Ginobili in the twilight of his career (second to last season in the NBA? I'd say he's in the twilight of his career) isn't going to put up the same numbers that he did 5 years ago.

Well Manu was playing some great basketball before he went down with that freak injury and before Tony went into Super Tony mode so I'm not worried about him yet. He'll come back and contribute even if it's not much because we don't need him to much. If Manu has a few more nagging injuries (knock on wood) I can see him thinking retirement sooner than later. I can only imagine he's been thinking about it more since he's been home all this time and not with his teammates at least on this RRT. Besides he seems to already have his retirement plans in place including surgery on that broken nose he still has from a few years ago that he still hasn't gotten taken care of and of course coaching those young Argie players for the NT.

Of course he will and he will this season, barring he doesn't have another serious injury. I am honestly not too frightened of what we are going to get out of him when he gets back, because he will be fine once he finds a rhythm. I am just worried about him staying healthy when does return.
