I guess it really depends on Nando and Patty - both if we can sign them and if they work out. Spurs might be forced to go with something that is not optimal (Neal at PG) even though they know it hasn't really worked all that well.
I think the Spurs wouldn't have extended the QO to Mills if they didn't want to keep him around. There has been almost no news about teams interested in him so if the Spurs can get him on a reasonable contract I'd like to see him back. With a full camp and preseason I think he can become a decent backup PG.

Bull , all you have to do is look at the contracts of other SG's/swingmen in the league for an easy comparison. There are countless examples of vastly inferior players with no future who are making far more than $4M/year. even Nick Young got $6M and he's got far fewer skills/ability than Danny Green, not to mention a horrid at ude.
But it's not an abstract market as you suggest. It's not what the market should be for some theoretical player. It's what some particular team was willing to pay this player that determines whether the Spurs got a bargain or not.

We'll probably never know, but the contract certainly seems within reasonable parameters (if perhaps a bit high).

You know it's a slow offseason when people are arguing if a Spurs rotation player got market or slightly above market salary.

    Welcome back Green.

    It's a very reasonable deal.

Should have he played well in the WCF, the price would have gone up. MLE at least.

He proved himself in the season. Even if he went cold in the WCF, he recognized he didn't do well at that point.

And that's one thing that makes him a good young wing.

If Green doesn't go cold in the WCF and continued playing like he did in the first two rounds in the WCF and the Finals, there's no way the Spurs would have been able to re-sign him. He easily gets $6M+.

Needless to say, I'd take the ring eight days a week even if it meant losing Green forever . . .

It's reasonable for a starter SG, for what he showed during the season and the first two rounds. Hopefully he will improve in his second season.

FWIW, the Spurs aren't paying this money for a mere catch-and-shoot guy or an offensively challenged big.
That's right! You can't consider Green a big.

Just read a great point from Drew at 48MOH for those complaining about DG's contract:

Steve Novak got 4 years/15 Million

And Novak is even more one-dimensional than Green.

At least Green gives you 3s, good D, and the occasional floater.

Wonderful news and a very reasonable deal for both parties.

Agree with Timvp, in that Green probably gets more money, had he not melted down during the WCF. While he lost some dollars, that probably made him more affordable.

I fully expect him to retain his starting spot and pair with Kawai to form a formidable defensive duo on the perimeter.
