One last computer help thread

After a lot more research and what not into buying a new computer I decided on this setup, the total including s&h comes out to $2150 which isnt that bad now that a friend of mine wants to buy my old computer off of me for $450 and originally I was just going to scrap the thing, am I getting a good deal on this thing? And is there anything I should want to add on to it as of right now?

Are you getting two power supplies (1 w/ case and the 600W one)?

I would probably get a 320GB Hard drive with a 16mb cache for my second HD.

No just getting the one power supply (600w), the hard drive space I dont really need much of, the raptor I'm putting just my games on and the other one will hold my music which is only about 5gb and pictures. Ive used a 40gb hd for the past 5 years and have never even come close to filling it all up, even 160 seems a bit much to me

why don't you save a 500+ and build it yourself.

That feels too expensive for that stuff. You can save money at a couple points and get the same performance.

Above case is solid, you don't need extra cooling. It has usb/hd front audio/1384 support too. Up the raptor HD to 150 gig, you shouldn't use up all that space unless you're adamant in leaving old stuff installed or you pirate a massive amount of software and music. The only reason I'd get a second HD personally is to burn CD/DVD imagessince swapping can be a pain. Plus you said you wouldn't use up all the room anyways. Pass on the cathode ray personally as it sucks extra power and puts out more heat, but hey throw it in if you really want a glow.

I dunno where you got your deal, but it seems pricey. If it's pre-built, then it doesn't justify another $600 when anyone on here would prolly do it for free.

extra cooling is if you decide to water cool down the future like overclocking...

but wtf do you need a quadcore for? not many applications out there are utilising the full potential of even duo2core let alone quadcore....

you can save like 500 on a processor, and put it towards a 24' LCD screen :D:D:D

instead of quadcore..why dont u just get a duocore2, and spend the amount you save on another VC and sli it :D:D

The case I was going to get was $70 cheaper than the one I am getting, I upped the power supply (is that important?), the case lights I want are an extra $15, the LCD temp display is an extra $15, and the extra cooling was another $60. The case I dont mind spending money on because it looks badass, but i guess i could do without the extra cooling and lights which would save me $100. I could also up the raptor and save another $20 on the extra hard drive, that would put the price at almost $2000. If i built it myself with everything I wanted it would cost like $100 more than what I am getting it for right now. The other system posted in here was the 8800GTS and a really sorry case.

Quad Core is a bit overkill for gaming, there aren't really any games that can use the multiple cores, so you might actually get worse results playing games on a Quad Core than a Dual Core.

Grabbed some stuff off of Newegg, went with a Core 2 Duo (but remember, prices will drop in a few weeks) DDR2 1066 instead of 800 to match the Processor Front Side Bus, one 150 GB 10,000 RPM since you said you don't need a huge hard drive, GeForce 8800GTX of course. Throw in whatever case you like (just make sure it's full ATX), whatever cooling you need, any disc drives you don't have and anything else I forgot. Not sure what it would come out to with shipping, the rebates and any extras you throw in, but pretty sure you could easily keep it under 2k.

Just some suggestions, take it as you will.

Thats what a friend of mine was telling me about the quad core and more advanced processors, that a lot of them are too advanced for anything coming out any time soon and it wasnt needed, that would save me $250 on the system I was going to get, and the other stuff is pretty much whats in it already. The thing with getting it off of newegg is that the shipping on all the different stuff comes to like $120 while shipping at the ibuypower site is free, thats why I decided to just buy from them. They put it together, offer the 3 years of service and a decent deal. Gerry how important is the 680i motherboard and 600w power supply? You sure about the shipping? For the six items I linked it lists 3-day UPS shipping as $12.94. The most expensive one is FedEx overnight for $64.19.

Real world performance differences of the 650i and 680i are negligible. The 8800GTX requires a minimum 450 watt power supply.
