Lobbysist Abramoff sentenced to 5 years, 10 months in SunCruz fraud case

MIAMI -- Disgraced former lobbyist Jack Abramoff was sentenced Wednesday to five years, 10 months in prison by a federal judge for his role in a fraud scheme with a former partner during their purchase in 2000 of the SunCruz Casinos gambling fleet.

Abramoff, 47, and Adam Kidan, 41, won't have to report to prison immediately. They earlier pleaded guilty to conspiracy and wire fraud for concocting a fake $23 million wire transfer to make it appear they were contributing a sizable stake of their own money to the purchase. Kidan received the same sentence.

SunCruz Casinos, hummm..sounds familiar? Oh yea, that was the casino 911 planner, Mohammed Atta and company visited on September 11, 2001...

4. Noting some of the evidentiary tributaries running between Daniel’s books and his ground-breaking investigative pieces, Mr. Emory mentions that Atta and company visited one of the SunCruz casino boats on September 11th of 2001. (SunCruz was owned by the late Gus Boulis, a friend of the elder George Bush who was murdered gangland-style in February of 2001.) Daniel mentioned that there appear to have been at least four trips to SunCruz boats by Atta and company, perhaps to launder money. (For more about the Boulis murder and the takeover of SunCruz by GOP bigwig Jack Abramoff, see—among other programs—FTR#516.)

What an idiot!!

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay called on religious conservatives Tuesday to stay active in politics and defeat the "enemies of virtue" who have targeted Christians like himself.

Mr. DeLay, who faces a re-election fight amid ethics questions in Washington and money-laundering charges in Texas, said moral values in America are under siege.

"We have been chosen to live as Christians at a time when our culture is being poisoned and our world is being threatened," the former House majority leader told a "War on Christians" conference. "The enemies of virtue may be on the march, but they have not won," he said.

........

"Our faith has always been in direct conflict with the values of the world," he said. "We are, after all, a society that provides abortion on demand, has killed millions of innocent children, degrades the institution of marriage, and all but treats Christianity like some second-rate superstition."

Mr. DeLay said that so long as conservative Christians hold office, "evil will be confronted. Nations will be freed, morality will be defended and the innocent will be made safe."

Meanwhile, the 'war on Christianity continues..yet another Tom Delay aid is going to jail...

WASHINGTON - Tony Rudy, a former top aide to Rep. Tom DeLay, has agreed to plead guilty to charges in the widening federal investigation of lobbyist fraud, a law enforcement official said Friday.

A hearing was scheduled Friday in U.S. District Court in Washington, where Rudy was expected to enter his plea.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal has not yet been filed with the court.

Rudy would be the first person to plead guilty to charges in the case since Jack Abramoff, once a leading GOP lobbyist, pleaded guilty to fraud charges in January.

More:

Tony Rudy, DeLay's former deputy chief of staff, was told by a U.S. District judge that he could receive up to five years in prison but the sentence could be much less depending on his cooperation with prosecutors in the case, which earlier brought a guilty plea from lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Rudy is the second former aide to DeLay to plead guilty in the scandal.

It's club fed, they'll have three square meals, internet access, conjugal visits, and no threat of ass rape.
