I have no doubt in my mind that the Hawks are good enough to make it to the finals. If that happens, how would the spurs match up with the Hawks?

- Offensively they play the someway as the Spurs..Great ball movement and the rare Iso plays here and there.
- Like the spurs, they rely heavily on there three pointers to make their offense look fluid.

IMO, the spurs are a much better team because the Hawks don't have defensive stoppers. Sticking Green on the PG and Kawhi on the three pointer will kill their offense IMO.

Pop will eat Coach Bud alive. The Master always wins against his students.

Yeah...Spurs perimeter defense would be the difference. Hawks would make it interesting though.

Bud is a huge reason why the spurs changed their game..He's the biggest contributor to TEAM BALL SPURS.

It would be a great finals matchup for the non mainstream fans and us spurs fans since its basically a repeat. There's no way they beat us in a 7 game series. Stick DG to Korver, kawhi on teague vice versa. Tiago and Duncan will man the paint against their bigs. Our bench is better than theirs. Game over

It would be similar to the Portland series and the Spurs would just take them apart. Experience matters and the Hawks would crumble under the pressure of the finals...but they won't get to the finals this year.

So basically I agree with you, apalisoc ... :toast... ( ... And I still think that Pop could take him). :p:

Bud is every bit as competent as Pop. In fact he's probably less stubborn and more open to things that augment the basic spurs' system.

If you listen to Bud's interviews it's clear that he's taken 90% of the spurs system but added in things of his own that make his overall system even more potent.

True, but Pop might not be as stubborn if he were to encounter Bud because he would know to take him seriously, and that the guy actually has more than two brain cells. :p:

Korver on pace for a 50% fg / 50% 3FG 90% FT almost halfway to a season. Not that is a shooter

Coach Bud is awesome and this would be the dream final that would symbol and signal the ultimate Spurs and everything they stand for glorious victory.

But yes, for the matchup itself, Spurs would be a huge favorite.

Whatevs. It would be a great match-up nonetheless for Spurs fans if it were to happen. :D

Last team I would want to see in the Finals, but it would make for a great series with the Master and the Apprentice theme.

That would be a dream match up. I think Pop would win that chess match due to better pieces.

Please... that was in '06. We have an entirely different roster and have had b2b Finals appearances in 2013 & 2014. Haven't had any 1st or 2nd round exits since 2011.

The thing is, Our number 1 floor spacer and best 3 pointer also happens to be an elite defender..Even if his shot is neutralized, he's still going to be valuable..Korver on the other hand....

Korver is actually not that bad on D. But of courseDG is miles ahead

Spurs depth will be too much for the Hawks. ATL has an outstanding starting lineup right now, but the Spurs have the capability of being a 10 headed monster come playoff time.

can we worry about that if we get out of the West?

Also... did Pop actually teach Johnson how to physically play basketball? No, he did not. Avery was never on the Spurs coaching staff alongside Pop for so many years like Coach Bud was. It would be a totally different 'ball game' since AJ was never really a coaching apprentice to begin with. :tongue

:lmao the hawks are not reaching the Finals. They are a decent team but no star power to carry them through playoffs. And no championship experience either.

Who wins the East, then? Cavs?

You are correct. They are a good team but finals? NO.

Chicago is a good candidate if healthy to win the East IMO.

Well, the East is so weak and weird that Wizards could actually make a run...However, the Hawks are playing at such a high level and we have to give Bud a lot of credit for Atlanta's recent surge.
But I'm not worried about them. When both teams employ a similar style, experienced teams tend to prevail over inexperienced ones in these playoffs scenarios.
