WNBA suspends Shock guard Powell for striking Miller

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- The WNBA has suspended Detroit Shock guard Elaine Powell for five games for striking Washington Mystics guard Coco Miller.
The suspension, announced Monday, begins Wednesday when the Shock play a road game against the Minnesota Lynx. Powell, who was guarding Miller, struck her during the second half of Thursday's game in Washington, which Detroit won 76-62.
Powell has started all season, averaging 7.7 points and 3.2 assists. Detroit (7-7) has lost six of its last eight games.
