WTF. Just moved in to a house with a pool. Previous owner said low maintenance. Not as expensive to own a pool as everyone says.
Now, I got a fucking crooked skimmer within weeks of moving in. Haven't even used the pool yet.
How do you fucking fix a crooked skimmer? I have no mechanical abilities.

Why fix it? It will still work. Sounds like someone is trying to con you.

Unless you want to spend a couple of grand a year paying someone else i suggest you learn to take care of yours yourself. I only spend about $100 a year on chemicals for mine at the ranch.

I'm sorry, what was the problem again? Just rent that one out and buy a bigger and better home. I fail to see the problem in this.

The first thing I would do is fire my assistant for not checking every detail of the purchase. The next thing I would do is have my attorney sue in order to take EVERYTHING from the seller. If I am going to spen a million dollars on a home then I don't want a crooked anything.

Crooked skimmer? Who told you it was crooked, a pool maintenance service? I've had crooked, straight, even broken and they always work.

$2,000 a fucking year???? Where does that cost come from? I was thinking it was mostly going to be cosmictic. What is the functional problem? I'm wondering if I can just level it with some stuff. Do you really have a pool? I was just assuming but if you've got some ideas, let's here em.

I pretty much put mine in myself. Dug the hole, bought all the equipment myself, did the plumbing and electrical myself, just subbed out the concrete, plaster, tile, and stonework. I have an oversized pump and DE filter and put an automatic chlorinator on it so all i have to do is load it with chlorine tabs and let it go. Now that I have pump timing and chlorinator settings figured out the pool is pretty much on autopilot...add a little water occasionally, backwash occasionally, add DE when I backwash and put chlorine tabs in about every six weeks.

As for your skimmer not being level...it's no big deal. It will work tilted at a 45 degree angle as long as the water level is still between the top and bottom of the opening. The whole point of the skimmer is to remove floating stuff from the pool. The suction side of the pump is tied into the skimmer box. The pump outlet is tied into the jets around the pool (in the northern hemisphere they should all be pointing counterclockwise) this causes the water to circulate and move floating shit to the skimmer where it is sucked down into the basket that you are supposed to clean occasionally. The skimmer box not being level is no big deal. It will still work fine.

And yeah...I don't use a pool service but it's bound to cost more than a grand a year to pay someone else to take care of the pool.

I have above average income, but not enough to justify buying a place with a pool.

LOL Armando did good. You on the other hand disappeared. I even called your brother looking for you.

dude, you have a PM. I paid you for everything you did up to the time you disappeared.

CosmicCowboy

I know. I'm not happy you have a bent skimmer tbh.

Meh...it works fine. BTW, I was really worried about you. I mean...You were in a bind and I paid you for everything you had done to that point and knew you were having personal problems. When you disappeared and weren't answering your phone I tracked your brother down from the name on the truck you were driving (you had borrowed his truck?) and he told me you were OK so I just figured you had found better things to do. No hard feelings on my end and hope you are OK with it too. I paid you exactly what you quoted me in cash when you asked for it. I would have paid you the extra day if you had come back too but managed to get it done anyway.

did you ever install the open flame heater?

Not yet. Still putting stuff together to do it. Maybe this year. My life has gotten pretty complicated too.

CosmicCowboy
03-07-2013, 07:00 PM
Yeah things were tough for sure. Yes, you paid me I'm not saying that. I'm used to seeing the project from start to completion. I wanted to stay but unfortunately I couldn't. Like I said I'm glad it's working good and I hope you use the shit out of it.

BTW, remember our conversation about bolting down pumps and you said you never did it and I said I always did it? After repairing the cracked pump manifold the second time (with sch 80 fittings) I ended up drilling and anchoring the pump down and problem solved. might want to do that in the future.

Economy kicked my ass. I don't owe anyone a freakin dime though.

Things are much better. How's Your Dad? He was really cool.

Just had his 93rd birthday. Still driving God help us all.

Well, if your skimmer is crooked, you have no choice but to rent a bobcat and fill the pool with top soil. Less maintenance that way, tbh.

CosmicCowboy
03-07-2013, 07:06 PM
Yeah, No one bolts their pumps down, only in a comercial setting where the pumps are mounted to the wall. So what cracked? The Pump Pot? the Valute(returnside)?

Kept breaking at the vertical 90 from the pump to the filter valve. Vibration/fatigue.

I would need to have a place with a larger plot as well. I like grass over water. Swimming... That's what the Sandy, Clackamas, and Columbia rivers are for.

The picture WC posted is actually a mini backhoe made by Bobcat and not what is commonly called a "bobcat". Bobcat was the first company to make a skid steer loader and became almost a generic name for skid steers. My skid steer loader is actually a Cat but some people still call it a bobcat.

A guy 2120 hooked me up with did the rock work on the pool itself but I think his main deal is plastering and tiling pools so I'm not sure how competitive he is on just rock work. I did the flat patio sections Redneck style. Mixed about a 2" layer of sand and cement and then laid the rocks out until I liked it. Then hosed it down til all the sand and cement got wet and set up and then came back and grouted. Worked great and has held up well.

I'll hose you down and help you get your sand wet and mushy. Then grout and fucking trade blows and hammer each other's feet with big bricks until we can't stand the pain anumore.

This may be true, but it is the image I had when Darrin said Bobcat related to filling a pool with dirt. "Crescent wrench" is also an adjustable wrench made by Crescent. Brand names get mixed in with common descriptions all the time. Teflon also Duponts name for PTFE.
