I honestly thought this was going to be Bonner's year. There was no pressure on him to produce like previous years. He just had to play hard, smart, and shoot with confidence (whether he makes them or not.)

Even with no pressure on his shoulders, he can't even do the bare minimum. He's obviously a great locker room guy and a outstanding citizen but horseshit of a basketball player in the months of April, May and June.

Try and trade him, otherwise Spurs must use the amnesty on him.

I don't care how much he helps us in the regular season if he is a complete liability in the playoffs. Spurs gotta take more loses in the regular season if it means the player has a chance to help us more in the playoffs.

As far as Pop is concerned, that's especially why players like him (and Finley back then) need to go. If Pop has them, he'll give them another chance, and another chance, and another chance...

Blair and Bonner bring a level of ineptitude to the team that's debilitating. They both need to go. Tiago needs to go as well. He's been playing the game long enough to have learned to shoot the FT. He's a liability. We need a solid big and some good outside help.

Seriously, drop the homer love for these turds and let them walk.

Diaw was good in the regular season and some of the playoffs, but he's too fucking soft and defers when he has wide open looks and is a good shooter. He's serviceable though but he's gotta shoot.

Gary Neal has earned the right to stick around. He's not a PG, Pop needs to not play him in that role. If anyone spreads the floor now, it's him.

So if the amnesty clause is used on Bonner, and James Anderson is gone from the spur roster, then we are looking at replacing those roster spots with Lorbek and Decolo.

objective
06-07-2012, 02:35 PM
Though I don't expect the Spurs to amnesty Bonner because of how much they are in love with him and I fear they are grooming him to be in the front office one day like Ferry, IF they did amnesty him, they wouldn't have to pay out much. Some team out there under the cap would bid 2 million a year for him and the Spurs wouldn't owe that much out of pocket.

It's fucked up though, because we really needed him to space the floor in this series. We had everything we needed to beat this team. If Diaw would've at least shot the ball when he was open, things could've been different. Most of the time you can point to a series of events that change things. We knew going into this series what we needed to be successful.

GET IBAKA OUT THE PAINT SO TP COULD DO WORK!!!
TP needed room to work his magic! Green didn't help, but Kawhi stepped up big a few games so that was almost a wash. We couldn't get good looks! Thanks alot, Stretch Four!

And before the knee-jerk "Who would want Bonner?" post, who did you think wanted RJ before he was traded?

Mugen
06-07-2012, 03:57 PM
Bonner was always more easily trade-able than RJ because of his contract. There will be takers too. That's not an issue.

Issue has always been Pop and his love affair with him even after year after year of epic choking.

Yeah, I can see us trying to work something around Bonner, Blair and Neal as a package. That's enough talent and expiring contracts to maybe get us something decent. As a trio, that's roughly 5.5 million in salary and we could take back up to 7 million in salary. I'd love to try and get say Ilyasova as a S&T...

Off-topic, I wanted to check out Matt Bonner's salary so I typed his name into Google and the 2nd most searched is "Matt Bonner gay" lol.

IIRC hes married to a female with kids right?

Bonner has an non-guaranteed contract in 2013/2014 season so he'll be easier to trade then. For now, I think a player like Bonner has the value of a 2nd round pick. What are you guys expecting in return for Bonner? Or does he have to be packaged with someone else to have value in this case?

Finding a team that could use a clutch shooter off the bench like Neal ought shouldn't be that hard. That's a useful spare part for a lot of teams.

Finding a team that can use a power forward with range like Bonner is certainly possible, but the fact that he's truly terrible in pressure situations is a strong strike against him. Possible we can find someone, though.

Finding a team that could use a backup power forward and garbage collector like Blair is certainly possible, but it's hampered by the fact that he doesn't have any one go-to NBA skill since his rebounding dropped off after his rookie year.

Finding a team that's going to look at those 3 spare parts and decide those guys are exactly what they need is much, much harder. So trading them together for a single useful asset would be enormously difficult.

Matt Bonner
Position: Forward
Age: 32
Contract status: Two years, $7.575 million (final season partially guaranteed)
Future: Shot team-high 42 percent from 3-point range, but production and playing time again dipped in postseason. Could be a trade or amnesty candidate, but position as floor-spreading big man difficult to fill.
