This is also different than the Sochan "experiment" because it was never his role at any level. He showed good feel for the game, but it was always going to be a stretch for him to take the role full time. I assume it won't be an "experiment" with Castle and he'll be given a long leash to work...

After starting, what, three guys who never played the point because they were tall the Spurs aren't going to try the tall guy who has played the point and said he wants to play the point? Seems unlikely. Sticking him at the 3 has to be a pretty disappointing plan B. If Castle can get his 3pt...

Right, we should probably think of him as Ron Harper on the 90's Bulls. Not really a PG, but another guard/wing that can defend and exploit mismatches with his size. And he shares offensive initiating/playmaking with Vassell (who did make good strides in that area, IMO).

this season will be a tankathon. Spurs should be a play-in team. We still have the ATL pick and the CHI pick might convert. Just move up in the draft and grab Wemby's co-star, simple as that. And if you can get Traore you get him. We play positionless basketball with multiple ball handlers over...

If they see him as a lead initiator (staying away from "PG" title), then I suspect he gets the Tony Parker treatment. TP averaged 30 mpg and started 72 of his 77 games played.

Lakers embarrassing themselves into letting LeBron force them into treating Bronny like a Make A Wish kid. That nigga stinks, how the hell you don’t even average at least 20 points a game in high school? Shit he couldn’t even hit 15.

Avery Johnson said on the CBS draft show the other day that the Spurs see him in the mold of Dejounte. I think that probably forecloses any dealing to get the actually Dejounte back I would think.

If I see "soft tanking" as "win as many games as possible but don't sweat overdoing it," then I agree. And overdoing it I mean as making big trades for expensive vets. I do see interest in place-holder and instructive vets. I don't think they'll intentionally lose games or do weird lineups anymore,...

Right, he at the very least can share ball handling and playmaking duties with Devin, plus he's an actual guard/wing that understands how to play/set up teammates in a complex Motion offense. Sochan was a disaster mostly cause he has/had no business being the offensive initiator or primary ball...

I do anticipate another year of salary floor soft tanking. It just makes the most sense from the ownership standpoint. I'm not saying I like it; my seeing it that way reduces wrist-slitting anguish to hopefully temporary resignation.

I have way more confidence in Blake continuing his improvement as a secondary playmaker/ball handler (needs to get that shooting right, first and foremost) over Malachi magically becoming competent on defense and not a 'black hole' on offense.

Is it possible that Trae has been the target this whole time? Pelicans and Lakers were starting to show interest, so the two draft night moves may have been to strengthen their trade package. But in that case would the Minny picks really make or break the deal?

The spurs started Sochan last year without any experience and it was pretty much a disaster. Castle at least has some experience at the position in high school and at UCONN. Lets see what he does in summer league before we pronounce him Sochan 2.0 .

Agree about Knecht, feels like a Laker player. They have other problems and bad management, but he's not the horrible choices they've been making. Unsure about Holland. I like him there more than Buzelis. Might as well lean into the scrappy, defensive identity with their young players. At least...
