Nice find. I agree with DX that a lot will be determined by his workouts, as there are many SF prospects ahead of him. I think he will wind up going somewhere in the second round(I'd like to see how he does with his workouts before getting behind the Spurs using a pick on him), but if he goes undrafted he is certainly worth a SL invite.
Fields is (currently) on top of my under the radar list and could be a great target for the 2nd round pick. he showed one of the most amazing developments of a college player over the last years. recruited as a skinny baby face 6'3'' guard, he late developed into a 6'7'' forward with pretty nice strength.
he spent his first two seasons on the bench as an 8th man for Stanford and so disappeared from the radar of NBA scouts, but exploded this season and now leads the Pac 10 in scoring and is 2nd in rebounds.
what I like: most combo forward prospects play PF in college because they are great athletes, but lack skills to play SF. that's good enough to deliver impressive numbers at college level and based on that they usually get drafted, with teams hoping they will learn to play in the NBA. but many don't, they usually are no longer big and strong enough to power their way trough a defense and they are not skilled enough to play the game at top level.
Fields learned to play the game as a guard and developed pretty nice ballhandling and passing skills. he might find the same niche in the NBA like Ryan Gomes or Jared Dudley.

I'm just following my man Fields and think he is in good position to become one of the steals of the 2010 draft.
(yes, 2 games are a bit early. however, things my change tonight, so let's ring the bell now).
Fields finds himself as a NBA starter and he looks as if he already has 3 or 4 NBA seasons under his belt. he reminds a bit about the young Battier.
(he also totally outplayed Gallinari.)
well, it might still somehow affect the Spurs.
Fields opens some more options for the Knicks in a potential Melo trade. (or in a Fernandez trade, that possibility has been reported once more today). Fields looks like to have become an option to acquire a 1st round pick, if needed by the Knicks to make a trade work. (would I give the 1st rounder for him. yes, in a second).
If guys like Landry Fields and Andy Rautins and that Timofey Mosgov (Whatever the his name is) kid step up to the plate this year they're gonna be stacked with trade bait.
I'm going to have to watch a Knicks game soon and see what this Landry Fields kid has.
I wouldn't. At least not yet, that is. I want to see at least a couple of months before making a determination on that.
There may be more options available for Spurs 1st than previously thought, in terms of acquiring a young SF.
Chandler and potentially Fields could be options with the Knicks.
Here's two others (possibly...no rumors yet, just putting two and two together)...
Timberwolves: Ellington is inexplicably starting and Beasley is playing the three almost exclusively. Webster is out now, but when he returns, they'll have a logjam on the wings, to the point where one will be out of the rotation entirely. Brewer's role has been reduced as is, so he may be that guy. If he is, he could become available.
Grizzlies: Like the Wolves, they have a logjam on the wings. Allen signed their for a bigger role, but they already have four wings ahead of him. Gay just got a max extension and Henry brings desperately needed outside shooting, so unless they're going to unload Mayo (and they might, since they're cheap, are already paying Gay, want to re-sign Randolph and surely don't want to lose a young true center like Gasol), I've got to believe Young would be available for the right price.

Trying to tell him and Gallinari apart, especially on a computer screen, is not easy though. I guess the easy way is that Fields isn't the one bricking shots.
mountainballer....looks like you were right about this guy. The Spurs and many other teams missed the boat. There was mention of him in an article today. He is only one of four rookies averaging double digit points...with 55% shooting and 7 boards to go along with it.

What a trip. I just got online specifically to ask what our opinions were on this guy prior to the draft and this thread is on page one. I wonder how he would do in our system. This kid is good.
He'd be like a better rebounding, more efficient, longer, less three point shooting Anderson.
I'll take James Anderson. I just think he has more upside. And I think he has enough potential on the defensive end that he showed earlier this season to say he can play SF.
I don't give a 1st rounder for Fields though, because Dice is gone next year. I'd try and draft a PF.
I made the 1st rounder 2011 for Fields proposal at the end of Oktober, when there was a rumor that the Knicks are inquiring for the Spurs 1st round pick next year. (and back then they likely would have agreed).
this days they would fall from the chair laughing when offered a potential #30 pick for Fields.
btw. We have two young bigs in Blair and Splitter, another one in the pipeline (Richards) and two more bigs under contract next season (Tim and Matt). there is no urgent need to draft a PF. (the idea, that a #30 pick could step in and replace Dice is pretty unrealistic anyhow). the one spot, that isn't covered by a potential future core player is still the SF spot.
(yes, Anderson can play SF, but I guess most will agree that he is best used as our future SG and that Spurs should find a long SF, a player in the Batum mold, to fill that spot)
