What's sad is that those promises have to be made in order to secure a vote. Typical politician tactic. Go to the masses and promise things that cannot be achieved in order to secure a vote.
And it's not the politician's fault. People want to hear what they want to hear. Getting voted is all dependant on the majority believing what you have to say.

Being proud of passing a bill without earmarks, when it has 9,000 of them, is bizarre. It's worse than not keeping a political promise. It demonstrates a willingness to ignore the facts to advance an agenda.
With such impunity and disregard for known facts? Yeah.
It's like saying he sat in a church for 20 years and never knew his pastor was a racist and a bigot.
It's like having a neighbor who gives you your first gig as a community organizer, throws your political coming out party, and (allegedly) writes one of your two autobiographies -- and he's just a guy from the neighborhood.
It's like having a crook give you a sweetheart deal on your house and, when he's arrested, you've never had any dealings with him.
