I'm not sure how much they "like" the redhead any more, more like they see that they could amnesty him and sign a big for the minimum, or they could keep him and sign a big for the minimum. His being on or off the roster has no effect on what they can spend, so there's really no point in doing it just to quench the collective fires of about a million Spurs fans.
