The Mavericks have parted ways with longtime television analyst Bob Ortegel.

Ortegel, 70, had been part of the Mavericks’ broadcast team for 23 years but had not been part of the telecasts with play-by-play man Mark Followill for the last two weeks.

“Bob has been an amazing part of the Mavs’ organization for more than 20 years,’’ owner Mark Cuban said. “He has represented us not only in the media, but to organizations across the country. We’re hoping for him to stay, but the door is always open for him to return. We wish him nothing but the best.’’

As for the reason for parting ways, Cuban said that a fresher look to the telecast is the goal.

Ortegel worked alongside Matt Pinto, Jim Durham and Allen Stone before Followill joined the team.

The telecast team will now include Brad Davis on the road and Derek Harper for home games. The radio team of Davis and Chuck Cooperstein will be a solo act for road games for now, it appears.

He was old and terrible. I guess "fake voice" shoved the old man out the door.

"Skin" should have been the one to go but I love Dharp on the telecasts. Brad Davis, not so much. He sucks at doing TV

Harp is funny. I like him better than Ort. Harp is kind of bland though, but that is just his personality.

Ort was good, but he was getting whinier and whinier every game.

Skin is so unbelievably not funny. He is way better on his radio show than for the Mavs.

Is it me or does Fol use a fake voice?

A seemingly classier organization would have done this after the season but of course with Cuban involved it would have to go down this way.

Enjoyed listening to Bob, but I really love Harper and his analysis.
Plus he was one of my favorite players growing up.

I've gotten sick of hearing Followill unnecessarily peppering in fancy words in his telecast. You can tell its so forced and sounds re ed.

He is actually solid overall imo...but yeah, his fake laughter and voice seem forced at times.

True, a classy organization would handle that situation better while employing a rapist at the same time.

Well it was his time. For any analysts to last past 70 would take a big time effort.

tbh i think it's utter bull to treat Bob like this. The guy gave his heart and soul to this team for 23 years and you end his time here with a kick in the ass? Cuban should have given him the rest of the season and let him "retire". Instead of Ortegal ending his time with dignity and some of the respect he deserves, now there's all this controversy and bull .

    Cuban.

Mavs are as classless as the Spurs tbh. I don't deny it. But do Spurs fans deny that the Spurs are as classless as the Mavs?

    Yes. Simple math:

Wife Beater cancels out the RapePERIOD

Then the Mavs fire poor old Orty. Mavs less classy.

This quote makes it seem like it was Old Ort's idea, not the Mavs. Unless he was referring to keeping him on in a different capacity.

Cuban pushed him off TV into radio. He decided not to go for it, especially after Cuban ed around and kicked him off the TV broadcast for a week as an "experiment". Ortegal deserved better than to be treated like that.

    Then Tony cheated. Equality.
